From first phone call to final walkthrough

How It Works

Every NENS renovation runs on the same six-step process. Clear stages. Written commitments. One point of contact. No surprises.

Process

Designed to prevent the problems renovations are known for

We've spent a lot of time understanding why renovations go wrong. The answer is almost always the same: weak planning, unclear scope, and poor communication. Our process is designed to eliminate all three.

Every step has a clear deliverable. Every step is documented in writing. Every step has the same person leading it. Whether your project is a powder room or a full-home renovation, the process is the same.

The 6 Steps

The process every project follows

01
Step

Discovery Call

A 15-minute first conversation to understand the project and confirm fit.

What it is

A short phone conversation. We listen to what you're considering, ask a few questions about scope and timing, and confirm whether NENS is the right fit for what you have in mind.

What's expected from you

A general sense of what you want to change and roughly when. You don't need plans, drawings, or detailed scopes. That's our job.

What you'll get

  • - Honest input on your project — even if that means telling you we're not the right fit. If we are, we'll book your free on-site assessment.
02
Step

On-Site Assessment

Nataly visits your home to assess the space, measure, and talk through smart priorities.

What it is

We visit your home, walk through the space with you, measure, and assess the full scope of what you're considering. We discuss what's possible, what's smart, and what we'd recommend prioritizing.

What's expected from you

Access to the spaces being renovated, and a willingness to talk through how you actually use them. The more honestly you describe how your family lives, the better the design decisions we can make later.

What you'll get

  • - A clear, no-pressure conversation about your options. We'll flag any structural, mechanical, or permit considerations early. You'll know what to expect before you commit to anything.
03
Step

Design and Material Selection

We help coordinate the layout, fixture, finish, appliance, and lighting decisions that shape the renovation.

What it is

We help you make the design and material decisions that shape your renovation — layout, fixtures, finishes, appliances, lighting. We bring options that match your vision, your budget, and the performance standards we build to.

What's expected from you

Some time to review options, visit showrooms (we'll guide which ones), and make decisions. We'll narrow the choices so you're never overwhelmed — but the final selections are yours.

What you'll get

  • - A coordinated set of selections that work together aesthetically and functionally.
  • - Healthier materials by default — low-VOC paints, sustainable sourcing, durable finishes.
  • - Energy-efficient and water-saving fixtures where the project allows.
04
Step

Written, Fixed-Price Proposal

A detailed written proposal with scope, specified materials, timeline, and total cost before work begins.

What it is

A detailed, written proposal with the full scope of work, materials specified, timeline, and total cost — in writing, before any work begins. Fixed price, not "estimate."

What's expected from you

Read it. Ask questions. Push back where things don't make sense. We'd rather answer fifty questions before signing than handle a misunderstanding after work has started.

What you'll get

  • - A document you can read, share with your spouse, take to a friend, or set aside and revisit.
  • - Every line item explained and every material specified.
  • - No vague allowances or "to be determined" placeholders. If something genuinely can't be priced until walls are open, we'll say that explicitly and explain how that contingency is handled.
05
Step

Build

Permits, trades, materials, schedule, quality oversight, and communication all run through one point of contact.

What it is

Permits applied for, trades scheduled, materials ordered, work begins. We are your single point of contact throughout — coordinating trades, managing the schedule, overseeing quality, and keeping you informed.

What's expected from you

Be reachable for decision points. Renovations sometimes surface things that need a fast call — we'll never make a major decision without you, but we move faster when you can answer the phone.

What you'll get

  • - Regular updates throughout the build, with more frequent communication during active phases.
  • - Real-time visibility into your project through AI-assisted scheduling and progress tracking.
  • - Written change orders if anything needs to shift, signed by you before work proceeds.
  • - Clean, dust-controlled work practices that respect the rest of your home.
  • - A site that's tidy at the end of every workday.
06
Step

Walkthrough and Handover

A final walkthrough, documentation, care guidance, and direct follow-up path after the work is complete.

What it is

A final on-site walkthrough where we go through the completed work together. You point out anything that doesn't meet your expectations. We address it before we consider the project closed.

What's expected from you

A walkthrough that's honest. If something isn't right, tell us. We'd rather fix it now than have you live with it.

What you'll get

  • - A documented record of what was done — materials, fixtures, finishes, mechanical systems.
  • - Warranties, manuals, and care instructions for everything installed.
  • - A clear understanding of what to expect over time — settling, seasonal changes, normal wear.
  • - A direct line back to us if something needs attention later.
Timeline Expectations

How long does a renovation actually take?

Every project is different, and renovation timelines depend on scope, permit approvals, material lead times, and how quickly design decisions get made. As a rough guide: bathrooms typically run a few months end-to-end, kitchens take longer because there's more to coordinate, and full-home renovations often span most of a year.

Your written proposal will include a project-specific timeline based on the actual scope, with clear milestones from start to handover.
